http://www.atstravel.com.au/
Weather is currently 59-60F and dropping so sorry you have to come in autumn/winter..but in the day the sun is pleasant and warm so far...Here is THE site which shows all the mainstream things to see when you aren't slogging at exquisite work...or seeing an exquisite's personal view of the city. I can arrange for varying discounts on most of these products as I am intimately connected with the owner...(but some people like Bridge Climb are tight bastards) if you want to do them while you are here...but it gives you an idea..Blue Mountains is a must at some stage (you don't need a guide for that one unless you want to do something more hard core like abseiling) and so is the Bridge Climb...

Where are you staying in Sydney?

I have one option for you - it is a backpacker hostel (Balmain Backpackers) 5 minutes walk from SCA in Rozelle. 5 minute bus ride to city centre. Its a long term place, the rooms are small, clean, presentable (aint the hilton) full of young foreigners travelling around Australia who stay for a month or six (= much partying so at times it is noisy) and is run by a very charming young man who happens to be my son (ahem). The atmos is kind of like a group house with people coming and going and hanging around. (Yesterday there were two swedish girls wrapped in blankets sitting on the floor waiting for the computers to be free and two German guys having a cigarette on the balcony.) You can book a 4 room dorm like the one pictured with its own bathroom for $25AUS per night per person which is about the cheapest accommodation you can buy in Sydney. This is the first option I can think of, so far at the cheapest end. Google Sydney accommodation and if you come up with something and want me to check it out for you let me know. Evan (my son ) is contactable by email for questions or if you want to book it. Just tell him you know me.

Birthday in Sydney
We slept in behind the humming cafe. When I had woken at 6am it was raining buckets as only tropical storms can do.
We drove to RoseBay down Fig-lined streets past the harbour and bought the best croissants in Sydney.
We took a blanket to a secluded rock round the heads from North Bondi and talked about whales in the Autumn sunshine.
We made a post for EC.
Hope everyone else has as great an April 8th as I'm having.

An update
It is really strangely beautiful here today. The weather is by all means disgusting, damp and foggy, buut there are little rays of sunlight making their way through the fog and thick gray clouds. Because of this the skyline of the city looks absolutely stunning at dusk. The massive buildings feel transparent to me. Even though dark and gray they are outlined by thin dim rays of light that give them this lack of depth. Also very beautiful is the wind blowing through the flag a top the Brooklyn bridge. This is quite cinematic and lovely although it all feels a little sad. The change in weather is slow but pretty steady as spring approaches.
