This is the image I did in response to Jessie's written piece which goes in part: "and falls down and stays stuck and tries too hard and needs to be struck down and stripped bare." I decided to ditch the tickertape bit as it detracts!

Video Stills
Sorry everyone! I was super confused about what we were meant to post and only just was made clear this morning. I made this video and it was at our open studios if you all recall, the hands slapping another pair of hands very hard over and over while the second pair never moved nor flinched from its steady position. The sound was delayed a half beat after the action. I was thinking of Jacquie's writing about finding an object in her room that reminded her of her friend and brought on strong memories long after the fact. The idea behind the hands slapping is you know whats coming but you can't pull away, it starts by gently being held by a pair of hands and violently being slapped in the end. The delayed sound was done following the idea that often times the actulization of an event or action does not happen until after the fact, much like the feelings elicited in Jacquie after the actual event.
Here are some video stills of that video. Just to clarify, I was given Keith's written description which was a description of Jacquie's writing.

sorry it took so long!
i finally got access to a scanner and my images!
Eva's descripton of her first image: The future of the city = hybrids of youth in anticipation. The static of excitement and a thousand years of genetic development facing every direction.
to me, the more we know about the past, the better prepared we are for the future - i think teddy Roosevelt said that. (how appropriate!)
it then turned to a poetic representation of the history of America and its patriotism.
i'd like feed back on which flag is better. i personally like the way the painted one mimics the motion of wind in the photograph but i am open to (and asking for) suggestion.
all images are self printed on ilford fiber paper.

I was given directions..
And here are the results...
Stop. Face direction of wind.
Run till you can't stop.
Pick up the nearest object and throw it as far as you can.
Photograph how and where it falls.
Stop where it stops. Make an image.
Spin.
And take an image.

From Jacquie
I initially responded to Meghan's story about being enraptured by something beautiful even though she was supposed to be paying attention to something else.
In this photograph, I responded to Chris's Image. In Chris's image, he netted the island of Manhattan in a visual sense. In my image, I thought about nets in the literal sense. Especially safety nets. I went to the financial district and photographed St. Peters Church on Warren Street. On September 11th 2001, Many people ran to the church for shelter from the disaster. So I thought of the church ceiling as a sort of safety net. Also, religion provides a great sense of security for the masses. I began to think about how many people use religion as a safety net and how dangerous that can be. I removed the church ceiling to make the structure more "net like". In doing this, I inadvertently made the structure dangerous by removing the safety an indoor structure can provide and that the church provides.
