Clarification on MEA Sydney Maps
maybe i should clarify this. we still need more feedback from the group on possible emotional states that are memorable: the four i listed are all we have so far, but we want more, and we were looking for suggestions from the group.
also, we'd like specific places that are attached to these emotional states, so where, specifically have you felt a sense of awe. if this still isn't making sense to anyone, please let us know. we need feedback asap with we want to include this - please help!!!!

suggestion for mea culpa
call me blind sided by impending election here but I would like to suggest LIBERATION for your list
states for MEA CULPA
call me blind sided by impending election here but I would like suggest LIBERATION for your list.
Mea Culpa
I hope I'm doing this correctly...
awe [where have you most strongly felt humbled/amazed/aware of the immensity of it all]; home [safe, secure, protected, at peace, at rest]; displacement [uncomfortable, foreign, an outsider, disconnected]; immersion [not sure if that's the best word here - we're thinking of that moment when you feel most connected, in-tune with your surroundings, a part of everything surrounding you].
Awe -
Standing on the cliff at Kurnell, surrounded by the white rocks and layers of stone knowing that this was here so long before I was, and how much these rocks have seen, and knowing that they will be here long after I'm gone.
Home -
Anywhere I can hear my Dad laughing.
Displacement -
Trapped in the crowds walking to work in the City, being hussled back and forth, heads down and elbows out.
Immersion -
Under the waves where I'm torn between silence and the roar of the sea, suspended in space and wrapped in a cocoon of water. All effort stops and I can just be. Im aware of every tiny thing in this moment

Here are some links to stuff I found online - the link to the Library of Congress has actual images of the original documents which is pretty cool. Other stuff is background.
MEA Sydney Map - NEED YOUR INPUT!
hi all! thanks to those who've already posted that list! we really appreciate it! we actually got great feedback at the meeting yesterday, and we've morphed the project a bit and we need feedback in two stages (pretty please with sugar on top.)
For MEA CULPA
Sydney in dot points...
1. Wiping the salt off the car windows
2. The smell of a woodfire on a cold winter night
3. The loud crash of the waves still pounding the shore at midnight
4. The mix of old and new in the CBD, with the old barracks and the first courthouse a street behind buildings like Centrepoint Tower.
5. The Christmas display in the windows of the Market St David Jones store (The Nutcracker was my favourite display)
6. Bushfire moon (when the moon and sky are so red, you know the bush is burning)
7. The groan of weight as the ferry pulls into the wharf at Circular Quay
8. The sound of crickets at dusk
9. Bubble O-Bill's on a hot summer day at Cronulla Beach
10. The smell of a bbq wafting down the street

Hi exquisites,
after a long absence from blogdom here are some images for the liminal spaces/urban layers collaboration between me and Jac, these are a derelict tramshed / now graf clubhouse in Harold Park, which is very close to Rozelle. Broke in there about a week and a half ago looking for urban layers. So far they are called Unnatural Disaster #1, #2 etc
will put up more as I do more
xx
10sydney associations in 10seconds
1. Cockatoo screech
2. air as warm blanket (unable to define where skin ends and air begins)
3. sudden and torrential downpours
4. glittering glass bladerunner city horizons
5. burning windows in the city horizon at sunset
6. black silhouette norfolk pines on fire at sunset
7. galleon clouds blowing in off the coast across bright (vast) blue sky
8. cocktail hour in (any) inner city beer garden
9. sandstone cliffs, sandstone edifices (buildings)
10. narrow, inviting and mysterious inner city alleys bristling with murderous history
Sydney.
How good is your knowledge of American history?
Help?!
So..I'm redoing my video of mapping Australia, and joining it up with a piece about the colonisation of Australia and America with these little paper canoes I've been making/am still making.
To tie it all together I'm thinking the boats (which will be on the ground) need to be moving around or toward a symbol or phrase which can be on the wall or ground.
This is where I need your help.
Do you know of any terms used to describe white settlement in American history?
Here we have terms like "200 years of white lies" and "The Stolen Generation" which refer to the displacement of native people with white settlement.
I'm looking for the Native American equivalent.
I may end up using a less negative term, something to do with discovery (that could even work) or a term that signifies the way both Australia and America share a history of colonisation or native population. So any suggestions for any terms would be extremely helpful, really!
Also...does anyone know the name of that stuff (I'm good with descriptive words) that we were discussing in Sydney to cut letters/words out of and stick on the wall? I think it's white or clear. I'm thinking it was vinyl or a thick contact type of material but I could be horribly wrong....

calling all exquisites!!!
so, i'm going to play the role of nervous nelly here. i just realized that i only have two weeks left in nyc before i head up north to boston for a few months (but don't worry, i'll be here for the installation and the opening), but i wanted to see if there are any projects floating out there that people wanted to collaborate on beyond our original groups, and if so, let's do it now!!!

Bridges?
Well hello Mr. C and Miss Jess. Simone showed Jess's new photos in the meeting on Friday, and we've all seen Mr. C's video of the bridges, and I was thinking how similar Jess's photos were to my long panoramic of the NYC from Brooklyn, and I'm thinking we should collaborate!
MEA Culpa Update
Okay. So we're still thinking of the final form that the postcard installation will take, and working out all the technical kinks in getting it installed into the space, with the small chance that we can't put anything into the ceiling. I did find out that the weight of all our cards should be about 5-7 pounds. That doesn't seem terribly heavy to me....we should do an actual weight, rather than me doing math :)

Oh Sydney....
