I hope I'm doing this right- still a bit confused about the posting thing... these are fragments of works that ame from my own corpse that was in response to eva's writing initially, parts of which said things like "I begin to see how people die in crowds". Other phrases of similar suddenness began to make themselves apparent to me in the day to day, especially in a lecture I attended by Dominick Lacapra about memory, trauma and the sublime. Phrases like the one in the empty space above the elevators- "The denial of vulnerability in oneself" are sort of echoey psychological indictments when falling from LaCapra's mouth, but they are more sort of direct and surprising commentary when encountered in the silent spaces above doorframes, or on city walls, or on subway seats (all places I installed variations.. most notably "a self preservative step back to safety", which was also woven into the two images posted at the left side. These are the offshoots of my installation response to Eva's writing- they are as close an evocation to the sinister and suffocating Manhattan she was experiencing at the time. They attempt to inspire the desire for a self preservative step back to saftey.
