From Jacquie

I initially responded to Meghan's story about being enraptured by something beautiful even though she was supposed to be paying attention to something else.

In this photograph, I responded to Chris's Image. In Chris's image, he netted the island of Manhattan in a visual sense. In my image, I thought about nets in the literal sense. Especially safety nets. I went to the financial district and photographed St. Peters Church on Warren Street. On September 11th 2001, Many people ran to the church for shelter from the disaster. So I thought of the church ceiling as a sort of safety net. Also, religion provides a great sense of security for the masses. I began to think about how many people use religion as a safety net and how dangerous that can be. I removed the church ceiling to make the structure more "net like". In doing this, I inadvertently made the structure dangerous by removing the safety an indoor structure can provide and that the church provides.

This is really well done!
There's something about the light filtering in through the top of the arches that makes me think of the way movies always depict churches as being filled with light from the heavens and so on. And it does give that eery protected feeling, which ties in with the safety nets. Yet because it is open there is really nothing physically protecting you, it just makes you think of what is missing. Great work!
