sorry it took so long!

i finally got access to a scanner and my images!

Eva's descripton of her first image: The future of the city = hybrids of youth in anticipation. The static of excitement and a thousand years of genetic development facing every direction.

to me, the more we know about the past, the better prepared we are for the future - i think teddy Roosevelt said that. (how appropriate!)

it then turned to a poetic representation of the history of America and its patriotism.

i'd like feed back on which flag is better. i personally like the way the painted one mimics the motion of wind in the photograph but i am open to (and asking for) suggestion.
all images are self printed on ilford fiber paper.

LOVE it!
I personally love the first flag because like you said, it summons thoughts of flags waving in the wind which is one of the most patriotic and poetic images when it comes to the representation of America in the media.
Having said that though, the second flag looks brilliant and the splatters to me look violent, and this makes me think of the lengths people go to serve their country and protect it. And that is patriotism, too.

nice pictures, carly! and well put, ash. i very much like both flags. the first is nicely contained in a feeling of movement. the second one is more violent, more edgy. i'm staring at both now... i like the second one more.
