Exquisites...
We (Simone, Meghan and me) met on thursday, where they showed me the work which has been done so far :) we talked a lot about ny in terms of being an open city to experience, yet very closed whenever you really want to get to the essence (people, people's homes...)
walking the streets in NY often ressembles being inside rather than outside, since the buildings are larger than the streets or pavements. Access to most places isnt always easy though- i had reflected on most of the doors being open in Goa, whereas doors tend to be closed most of the times in ny.
Everyone is pretty much on their own in the city, which does not mean alone-- peole feel more connected to themselves (at least I do) than in any other place.
I particularly started to think abot how water is an influence to the city, being surrounded by high and low tides...and the way this is already adressed in the work.
see you on wednesday!

some thoughts

Thank you for your thoughts, Mark. The musings about how the tides receding and creeping back on the fringe of the city really resonated with me, maybe because since being back in Maine I have been going to the beach everyday. The ocean is so inevitable yet somehow nyc-ers are able to blank it's existence.
I can't wait to see how different it is in Sydney
Yes it is weird how we are on an island yet no one really seems to bother...that might also have to do with the fact that the amount of buildings makes it impossible to see the water or smell it- I guess the only thing that is really visible (yet invisible) is the wind going through the avenues..
